Carroll ISD Lists District Properties

Carroll ISD has listed four properties for sale due to a lack of state funding, according to an announcement from the district Sept. 27. The news release says that the district is struggling to balance their 2023-24 fiscal year budget and reduce costs amid a “school funding crisis in Texas,” and that selling these properties is a way of meeting immediate revenues while awaiting future action from the Texas Legislature. Two of these properties include portions of land at Jack D. Johnson Elementary School and the original CISD football field.

Below are the properties listed for sale in the news release:

The district’s goals for these sales is to benefit student education, increase enrollment, and provide both short-term and long-term revenue opportunities, the release states. The properties are available to purchase, exchange or as part of a partnership with the buyer. The decision falls under Texas Government Code Chapter 2267, which permits government entities to sell to private parties in order to provide public services.

Those who are interested in bidding on the properties can submit their request on the district’s website Ionwave by 3 p.m. Nov. 30, and questions must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. Nov. 2. Interested buyers can also contact Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services David Johnson at 817-949-8272 or [email protected].

“Unfortunately, due to the insufficient state funding formula, and the recent state budget that was passed with no increase to the basic allotment since 2019 amid record inflation, there are inadequate and uncertain state resources long-term,” said Cameron Bryan, president of the Carroll ISD board of trustees in the news release. “However, for the benefit of our community, keen business leaders and investors can now step up and enjoy a tremendous opportunity to own a piece of Southlake history and to help our schools through this public-private partnership.”
