TEA Releases School Ratings

The TEA, Texas Education Agency, recently released the long delayed school ratings for the 2022-2023 school year. Due to a legal battle contesting how the ratings were determined, the released results are based on an A-F letter grade accountability system that was established in 2017 by House Bill 22. The ratings for the 2023-2024 school year cannot be released due to a separate lawsuit. Ratings were not determined or released for the school years during the pandemic which included 2019 -2020 & 2020 - 2021.

Grade ratings are based on a school's performance in the following categories:

  • Student Achievement: Student standardized test performance such as STAAR results & college preparedness.
  • School Progress: State testing performance improvement
  • Closing The Gaps: School's ability to increase scores of specific student groups such as ESL or special needs.

Each category carries different weight with the majority of the overall grade (70%) based on the better of the first two category scores and the remaining 30% based on the last category.

A statewide summary result produced an overview of the following grades for all campuses across the state:

  • A Grade: 1,646 schools
  • B Grade: 2,873 schools
  • C Grade: 2,107 schools
  • D Grade: 1,264 schools
  • F Grade: 649 school

Below are the ratings for the school districts in this area:

Regarding current school year ratings results, Mike Morath, the Commissioner for the TEA, intends to release the ratings for the 2024-2025 school year on August 15th per state law.
